I have had the pleasure of being around my fair share of beautiful newborn babies this week.

First….

 My sister and Brother In law Lea and Brett

 (Maternity pix here —>  http://ashleylucasphotography.wordpress.com/2012/03/09/its-been-a-while/ )

Gave birth to my sweet little Nephew Cooper Ronald Thomas Lucas.

 7 Pounds 11 Ounces of perfection.

  We had planned that I would photograph the birth.

  I got a text at 4:00 am that Lea was in labor but at home.

I assumed (as they did) that he wasn’t coming for a while.

 I  got another call from Brett at about 5:00 am

 ”we are at the hospital you better hurry!” with a nervous giggle.

  I live pretty close so I brushed my teeth, Grabbed my camera bag and took off.

( I literally was there in 10 minutes)

As I am sprinting up the stairs I was passed by a doctor running with her scrubs half on frantically trying to get to Lea’s room.

When I get there  baby cooper lying calmly on Lea’s chest, Perfect and content.

What a surprise!!

 Apparently, they barely made it to the hospital She pushed twice and he was born!

Cooper  was  actually delivered by a nurse because the doctor didn’t Have time to get there!  Crazy!!

Here are a few pictures I got at the hospital…

  And a Baby Cooper posed picture for the road…

It’s Been A While. …

Yesterday Brian and I went over to my sister Shannons House to take pictures of the newest addition to the peterson family. This Little baby Goat is to-die-for-adorable. he just jumped right into my lap like a poodle. The question that keeps popping into my head is Why dont I have a pet baby Goat??!  Seriously…?.  :D I might be in love… His name is “Jacket”  My 3 year old Nephew Jyles named him.  His twin brother Justice wanted to name him “Coat”  hehe.  Anyway, Here are a few pictures with myself and Jacket and below my sister Shannon with Jacket.

ANYWAY….

Things have been Crazy around here! Business is steadily getting busier  Which is awesome!

One thing have become absolutely apparent to me in the last few weeks… Photography is so therapeutic, I am so thankful to have  it as an outlet.  In my adult life, this is the first “thing” or activity”  That I can use to shut off the rest of the world and get in the zone. I realize I have so much to learn, but that is part of  why I love it so much. It’s the challenge, desire and excitement that comes with all of it.  I have learned so much about myself in the process of photography.

Anywho… I have posted a lot of these pictures on my Facebook, But I am trying to get in the routine of putting them on this blog. I am so behind in getting my clients pictures up here, But I am just going to take it a day at a time.

The Lucas Family

 This is my Sister and Brother in law. The are expecting their second child. A sweet  little boy <3 I am So excited!!!    Brett and Lea are such awesome parents. They may Or may Not be naming him Cooper… Cooper and Cohen… awww Co- and Coop…..  What I love about Lea and Brett is that they are pretty much up for anything (including jumping on the bed at 7 months pregnant)  I think that is a big part of why they are such good parents. Cohen picks up on things so quickly because Lea and Brett just let him explore and figure it out on his own.  They are both wonderful people,I am so thankful to be  a part of the fam :D

The Hamadas

These two are adorable. they are expecting their first little guy.  My first time meeting the couple face to face was when I went the their house to do the shoot. Denise greeted me with a thank you card before I even entered the door.They were so kind, seriously some of the sweetest people I have ever met. They are both so ecstatic to have this little guy come to the world it is evident that they already love him more than themselves. I am so happy to have crossed paths with them.  That baby will be blessed beyond measures with wonderful parents.{ and a sweet Brother (Moses the Doggy)} They Just Had there baby! Congrats Hamadas!!! yaaaay  Can’t wait to meet him!That is all for now.  Thanks for reading <3

Happy Birthday, Dad!

It has been a few weeks since my last blog. I feel like I am failing miserably at this.  I actually really enjoy it, but every time i start to write I’m like ;’Oh shoot, I should go edit those pictures’, or ‘Maybe I should go walk the dog’, or ‘Maybe I should go pee’, I’d imagine holding it for more then an hour probably isn’t the best idea ever. So the last few weeks… Let’s see. It was my Dad, my Uncle Norms and My sisters birthday. One night we went out to sushi in my hometown Cave Junction. It was amazing….Seriously, I am impressed. {haters gonna hate ;) }

                                                                                                             {mom and dad}

My mom and dad have never had sushi.. My dad is a more Meat and potatos kinda guy  so he ordered ribs. . .  He did how ever mistake the Wasabi for guacamole…. a whole spoon full…  he handled it like a champ though, I didn’t even see his eyes water… Very impressive

That was a fun night… the next day Brian and I headed over to his mom’s for lunch. Something we do every Sunday. Brian has a very large family. He is one of 5 siblings. It has been part of our routine for years.  I have to say, I am very very blessed with my family. On both sides. I genuinely love to be around them. I hear that this is rare.
Anyway, after we stuffed our faces {even though we actually sat down and made an agreement that we wouldn’t over do it} we headed to My grandma’s to continue the birthday party festivities. My dad and Shannon were sick… total bummer… on the bright side there was a lot more home made pizza for us.  It was a good and bad thing.  Good thing because My grandma makes the best pizza in the whole wide world and anyone that has  had  the opportunity to enjoy a slice would agree. It was a bad thing because as I said earlier I STUFFED myself and Sunday lunch…. I know what you are thinking… did that stop you Ashley?  did you decide to maybe take a break from the food before you went in for round two?  the answer is no. I love bread. I love pizza, and I love my grandmas pizza.  I went for it, in a big way… and this was the outcome…. {thanks for the picture Aunt Cathy}
I told you my whole life is documented…
I seriously was in pain until the next day…. annnnd then I ate some left over pizza….  I will never learn.
Anyway,
It was my Dad’s Birthday.. And he was sick.. I feel really bad about that.
My Dad is amazing. He had not 1 but 4 girls. Poor guy, him and my mom thought I {the youngest} was going to be a boy, but nope…. However, I do look a lot like him and for that I got the nick name of “Little Chuck” growing up. {My Dad’s Name is Chuck, just in case you didn’t catch that.}
I always heard if you have a really loving and respectful dad, you will marry someone like him.
When I met Brian I didn’t see the resemblance I mean as far as being loving and respectful, yes. But when it came to activities, Hobbies, Looks there wasn’t much that they had in common..
It is getting almost scary how slowly how I am realizing how much they are alike. Pictures of my dad 25 yrs ago look a lot like Brian now. Weird how that happened!
Am i right, Or what?!  This isn’t the best comparison picture… I think it would be fun to have Brian part his hair like my dad did for a picture to  make the two of them look more a like but lets get real….
Generally these are what our “couple pictures” look like. . .
Like I have said before, I will take what I can get. ..
Have a good week everyone!!!

I had the pleasure of taking pictures of not One but TWO beautiful babies.  Have I mentioned how much I love babies? I LOVE them, But really, who     doesn’t?  I feel so blessed to call what I do ”work”.

It took a while to get these two bundles of sweetness happy and content.   They would be just fine when in mommy’s arms, sleeping like angels… BUT as soon as we would try to set them up for a shot they would get upset.

Usually it takes a long time to get the babies  sleeping, happy and positioned just right anyway….. And, generally with newborn photos they are just a few days old.  Lucy and Lilly were born  little over a month ago…. {crazy story- technically they were born on two different days! how cool is that?!}

It is about was about a 3 hour process, and I  enjoyed every minute of it.   What makes it so worth the wait is when they finally give in and get sleepy… :}

After a while we made ‘mommy’ the back ground so that she could hold them while I took the pictures and they were totally good with that..  There was no place these girls would rather be.  It was like magic!   They seemed to love being cuddled, and they were happy as can be laying on each other too. Infact, they seemed to be comforted by each other….   It was very sweet.

This Christmas was a very busy one but, we had a great time. It went like this…

Christmas Eve morning–> @Mom and Dad’s.   My sister Shannon, her husband Mike, and their three kids were there.  Megan Ashley {middle-named after yours truly} :) and the twins,  Justice and Jyles. Of course Charlie, { my dog } and My parents HUGE dog, Rufus were both there too..   I got knocked down by Rufus who easily weighs over 120 pounds not once, but three times!    And… Surprise,  surprise  it was captured in a picture.  (One thing to know about my family is  that there are ALWAYS cameras EVERYWHERE… It’s a little overwhelming for some people       (*cough—> Brian, Mike, Vern, Spencer) to get comfortable with but it has always been that way. I betcha I can track down a picture or video recording from every day of my life.

Anyway, here it is, Me getting knocked down by my ’brother’ Rufus,  enjoy… (thanks for the picture mom)

I Tried to get out of there….  But as I was trying to run away, he got excited and charged me.   You won this time, Rufus…

We had a busy fun-filled Christmas Celebration.  One amazing thing that happened on Christmas morning was that My cousin Jenelle got engaged! YAAAYYY!!

I was so excited when I found out on Christmas morning that I cried!   Although, I must say that this is really not that crazy because,  I cry over everything these days—>* confession:   the Tmobile commercial when they have the flash dance/song at a mall, surprising everyone with a beautiful melody…  Yeah, I cried when I saw that.

I don’t know what it is about Cheerleading, dancing, and  ice skating competitions… {perhaps because I am just so happy for them?!}  Amazing athletes, watching someone get baptized, children singing….  {you get the idea} it just gets to me… {No I am NOT pregnant}   But— the weirdest example would have to be wild horses running….  Hear me out—- It’s not just me.  My sisters also cry at the sight of running horses.  I think we discovered it when we watched  the movie Black Beauty together,  All of us were trying to hide the tears from each other to avoid being laughed at or getting the; “Are you Crying?!”  {hate that}  soo, when we all heard the sniffles we all knew we weren’t alone.   So tell me…

Does this choke you up at all?

With all that to say, there were a lot of emotions this Christmas,  Mostly happy.   Although, I miss my sisters and their families…  I wish they could be here to celebrate every holiday with us.  *Sniffle, Maybe some day…

 :)  How was your holiday?  Any exciting stories?   I would Love to hear them!

This will be my first post EVER. I am not a good writer, or speller….   But,  I thought, what is the worst thing that could happen?  People just won’t want to read it – OR they will want to read it just to make fun of me and how bad I suck at writing…   Either way, I am going to give it a go,  and it is all for the sake of entertaining you….. You’re welcome.     ;)

My name is Ashley Lucas. I love love love Photography. That’s really  the point of all of this.   However,  before I get into all of that,  I wanted to share little about myself…

I am married to a great man and we have  a dog.    He  is hands down adorable {both of them…. see for yourself}    No children.   Yet.

My husband {Brian} and I will celebrate our 4th wedding anniversary April 19th. {so weird} I feel like we just got married… then again, I feel like we have been married forever…

I talked Brian into taking a few Christmas pictures with me. The man HATES pictures.  Ugh…  It is REALLY  irritating, But he was a really good sport in these ones.  The first is just a normal picture, but brace yourself for the second one…

Yes I know, a little creepy… If you haven’t gone to www.awkwardphotos.com you are missing out on a good laugh. After going to that website and seeing so many redic pictures I convinced my husband to take one with me.   I had a serious laugh attack and it took like 60 times to get the creepy look just right, but when we got it,  we knew it was the one.   Charlie is a trooper, he likes pictures.

While we are on the topic of being awkward I would like to share one more picture.  This is My sister and I.  We saw on www.pinterest.com  {<—- Obsessed with this website….}   childhood pictures of siblings and their attempt to retake the exact same photo.  Well… we thought ‘this is right up our alley.’   We HAD to do it….

We are so funny…. right?  ;) So anyway,  if you want to, please follow my blog…   There will be Many, Many more pictures to come <3
